Our Precious Children

The anti gun crowd should be demonized for jumping on the “ban guns” mantra before we even knew what happened in Connecticut. What ever happened to human feelings and empathy? Shouldn’t our first thoughts go to the families of those lost and to the protection of those who survived? Yet the President of the US and Prime Minister of Canada both included in their initial statements on the tragedy, that firearms laws were necessary. Once again, misplaced blame on an object, and not the perpetrator of this heinous act. By the way, the same day over 20 children in China were hacked up by a deranged individual with a knife, yet there is little on this in the news, nor do we hear cries for the banning of all knifes(?).

The State Of Retail Today And For The Future

Everything today is about speed, convenience, and the lowest price. Granted, looking for a deal on something is not a bad idea. We all have a budget to work with.

Bad Drivers ???

Bad Drivers

Ok really, you would have to stay inside forever to not notice the pathetic drivers in this city. What’s with people? They miss an exit on the freeway so they just STOP! I’ve watched vehicles swerve around a stopped vehicle until they could back up and make their exit. Seriously? Go to the next damn exit and back track. I can’t even begin to count the number of vehicles I’ve seen going down the road the wrong way, running stop signs, etc.

I spoke to a law enforcement officer who stated that the majority of accidents are perpetrated by people with polysyllabic names who may or may not be citizens of this country yet. No kidding! That also raises the question, this is primarily an English country with English signs and addresses, etc. Why then do we offer driver testing exams in like 10 languages? It should be English and that other official language ONLY. Were you aware that if you are from certain countries, you don’t even HAVE to take AB driver testing? How stupid is that. By the way, all these bad drivers are why WE have to pay through the nose for vehicle insurance.

In some countries that have seasons similar to ours, driving testing also includes winter driving skills. This should also be mandatory for those who come here from countries that seldom see snow. These people have no clue as to how to drive in these conditions. They are a hazard to the rest of us on the road. They should also be required to explain all the vehicle controls such as heat and defrost. How many times have you seen someone driving between two lanes because their windows are so iced up they can't see through them.

Oh and did I mention that because of them, our insurance rates are skyrocketing?

Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; ... - Life isn't always fair; - And maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies, don't spend more than you can earn and adults, not children, are in charge. His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife Discretion, his daughter Responsibility, and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers - I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, do nothing.

Specialization

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently and die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."
